Payton Pritchard’s 26 points lead the Boston Celtics to a 114-106 win against the Philadelphia 76ers in the opening preseason game. Fresh off a nice contract extension Pritchard was feeling himself shooting an efficient 9-14 and 6-11 from 3.
If the Celtics want to win a championship different guys will need to step up on a nightly basis in order to give Tatum and Brown enough support. This was also the debut for both Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Porzngis started off on fire accounting for 8 of the teams 10 while shooting 3-3, meanwhile the rest of the team was 1-10. Kristaps, hit all four of his first-half shots and and all four of his free throws, scoring 13 of his 17 points.
Jaylen Brown scored 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting and accounted for all the scoring in a 9-0 third-quarter run. Tatum had 13 points and 10 rebounds, but was 3-13 from the field and 0-4 from deep. Jrue Holiday also made some nice contributions in his 22 minutes off the bench, but was also just 2-10 from the field.
If this Celtics team wants to go deep they will need to individually defend and play team basketball on the offensive end. They have enough weapons to beat every team in the NBA, but can they sustain that level for a 7 game series?
