From the hardwood to the heart-pounding moments, we’re about to break down everything you need to know about the Big East’s contenders, dark horses, and the fierce competition that’s set to unfold.

So, grab your favorite jersey, prepare for the roar of the crowd, and let’s dive headfirst into the electrifying world of Big East basketball.

Power Rankings

  1. Marquette Golden Eagles

They return the best point guard in all of college basketball, Tyler Kolek, and have a returning core that won BOTH the regular season and conference championships last season. Shaka Smart will again look to compete in the Big East and has DUDES off the bench in Tre Norman and Chase Ross. Second weekend team for sure with another year of experience

  1. UConn Huskies

The National Champions retain and bring in a lot of talent, many of whom look and play similarly to last year’s super team. Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle are sure fire first rounders and Alex Karaban is a sleeper pick, because of his size and shooting (40% from 3 last year). Big time transfer in Cam Spencer as well. Look out for Dan Hurley’s squad. Another national contending team.

  1. Creighton Bluejays

Year in Year out Greg McDermott has this team playing their best basketball at the best time. Baylor Schierman and Ryan Kalkbrenner could be the best inside out threat in the entire country. They lose their PG to the portal, but bring in a big time transfer in Steven Ashworth. I like this team to make it into the second weekend again.

  1. Villanova Wildcats

Year 2 for Kyle Neptune will certainly see improvement. They bring in a Top 5 transfer class and return key freshman (high recruits). Justin Moore will lead this and for sure be 1st Team ALL BE. Nova has never tried the portal, so this will be a test experiment. A good team to test.

  1. Providence Friars

Year 1 for Kim English will be a tough one in-conference, but he has a loaded group. Returning two of the best in all of the Big East and potential POTY in Bryce Hopkins. This team has size, experience and just needs to knock it in from 3. This team has all the tools and Kim English could not be more happy about the team he inherits. Look out for this culture of “Mindset” to really elevate this program.

  1. Saint John Red Storm

Another new coach in town and none bigger than Rick Pitino. The perfect place for him to make another comeback. He will have his work cut out for him, but has a team ready to go. Joel Soriano will lead this team. The question will become: can the guards handle Pitino’s style? It may take a few years, but this program will be back on the map.

  1. Xavier Musketeers

This team has been devastated by injuries this off-season. This team was expected to do big things this year, but Zach Freemantle being out jeopardizes things. However Sean Miller has seen it all and will lead this young team in a gauntlet of the Big East.

  1. Seton Hall Pirates

Year 2 in the Holloway era, and he will continue to bring toughness to Jersey. Just give him a chance in March and his magic will take over. This team has a 1st Team All BE candidate in Kadary Richmond, very tough group overall.

  1. Georgetown Hoyas

After a disastrous end to his Providence career Ed Cooley will look to smooth the sails in DC. He has a team with a lot of different experience and talent, but they haven’t seen real college basketball minutes. This will be interesting considering this team has barely won a Big East game over the last few seasons.

  1. Butler Bulldogs

Thad Matta is one of the best coaches in the entire country, in terms of winning %, he will look to build this program back up again. He loses some key transfers, but brings in a few big time guards one of which being Posh Alexander. Very excited to see Posh in a new system under a very elite coach.

  1. Depaul Blue Demons

This team competes every year they may find themselves at the bottom of the pack, but Tony Stubblefield is building this program into competitors. They will look to build on a very successful non-conference a season ago and build a postseason level program.
